How To Fight The Mid-Semester Slump
We're at the point in the semester where fall break is right around the corner! However, it's also the point where students might feel unmotivated and overworked. In this blog, we dive into how to prioritize self care while still preserving academic motivation. Here's how to fight the mid-semester slump!
Create a game plan!
You might feel like your to-do list is neverending, which can cause procrastination. Grab a sheet of paper and write down all of the things you’d like to accomplish. Don’t think about it too hard, just get it all down on paper.
Then, take a look at your list and start thinking about what you’d like to prioritize–what assignment is due first? Which tasks do others depend on? What would make you feel better to cross off sooner rather than later? All things to think about as you number off which tasks to get done in order of priority.
Switch up your routine!
Routine can be beneficial because it can give us something to look forward to every day. However, it can sometimes feel repetitive and can make it harder to wake up and start the day. Instead, make every day its own adventure! What is something unique that you could look forward to that day? These little adventures can keep us going until fall break.
Rely on your loved ones!
Your friends and family want you to succeed, and if you are feeling discouraged or unmotivated, don’t be afraid to reach out for support. Whether you need a study buddy or a break from studying for self care, your friends and family can help.
Find a good study spot!
A good study spot can make all the difference. If you’re feeling unmotivated, maybe it’s time to explore different study spots! Is there a spot on campus that you’ve always wanted to work in? This can help you feel refreshed which could lead to a better attention span. My favorite study spots are outside the wine spectator lounge, the third floor of Stevenson, or the library!
Don’t forget self affirmations!
It goes without saying, but never underestimate the power of positive self affirmations. Speak kindly to yourself and find phrases or ideas that have you feeling motivated and ready for the week ahead. Feel free to write these phrases on post-it notes and stick them around your room so you are constantly reminded!
Only a couple weeks left, Seawolves! You got this.
