“People of the West” Screening, Talk & Nature Walk
Wine Spectator Learning Center, Copeland Creek Corridor, Native Plant Garden
Thu, Oct 29, 11:00 am
– 4:00 pm
Join us for another "People of the West: An Indigenous History of California" episode screening then take some time to connect with each other and the outdoors. In "First Contact," we hear how before colonization, California was a world of ceremony, sovereignty, and sacred balance, then everything changed. Come explore how Indigenous worldviews reflect relationships to land, responsibility, and sovereignty, and analyze how first contact with Spanish explorers disrupted—but did not erase—Indigenous continuity. Following the presentation and discussion, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a gentle walk along the Copeland Creek Trail to the Native Plant Garden, where we can rest and reflect with nature!
