We’ve Been Here Before, We’ll Win Again: A Queer History Lunch & Talk with Chuck Rhodes

HUB, Schulz Information Center
12:00 pm
Every day, there are attacks from all directions on Queer people. From legislatures to the pulpit to media. It’s easy to be afraid and give up.
This is not the first time that it has happened in our society. Similar attacks rose in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Even during these turbulent times, queer folks made steady progress in gaining rights and respect.
Chuck Rhodes came out professionally in 1976 at a time when it was almost guaranteed to be fired. But he wasn’t and is a recognized leader in opening opportunities for LGBTQI+ people in higher education.
The former AVP for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at SSU will share our evolutionary history as well as how to not only maintain hope and how to develop strategies for moving forward.
After retirement, he earned a Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry primarily to counter the religious lies used to oppress inclusion. He currently serves as the National Minister for Justice and Equity for the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries , a radically inclusive social justice movement with over 100 churches in twenty plus countries. Food will be provided.
